Technical keywords must match the stack
Engineering ATS screens usually look for explicit technologies, but recruiters still evaluate impact. If the posting says React, TypeScript, Node.js, Postgres, AWS, Kubernetes, or Python, use the exact technology names when they truthfully match your work. Acronyms and variants matter because parsers may not infer them.
Common keyword clusters by role
Use the job posting as the source of truth, then compare it against these clusters to find gaps you can honestly fill.

Engineering resumes become more convincing when keywords are tied to scale. Instead of “built APIs,” write “designed Node.js APIs handling 1.2M monthly requests with p95 latency under 180ms.” If you cannot share exact numbers, use safe ranges or operational details.
Avoid the technology dump
A giant skills list can look desperate and dilute your strongest match signals. Prioritize technologies from the target job, remove tools you cannot discuss confidently, and move less relevant tools into bullets only when they support an outcome.
